That’s exactly why we don’t have a membership to Costco or Sam’s Club. We don’t have enough storage space in our house to store all the goodies . I’d have to install shelving in the garage just for excess groceries.

Looks like you went to Costco with my wife.

Me: “We’re here for milk, eggs, and bacon. And maybe a chicken bake.”

$275 later.....

The problem with Costco is that everything cots $10. Every time you look at an item, you think, “Hey, this is only $10.” Thirty minutes later, you’ve got 20 things in your cart that all cost $10.

The county where I live charges a tax on plastic shopping bags, so I’m in the habit of always bringing my own bags when I go shopping. The last time I went to Costco I brought bags like I do any other store. I keep the smaller ones nested inside the big ones.

The guy loading up my cart was very confused about what to do with these bags, I’m guessing because he was so used to just throwing random shit into carts and/or discarded boxes. It was a total disaster of random shit thrown into bags with no attempt whatever to fill the bags or have their contents be stable. He didn’t even completely un-nest the bags and was loading bags that were still inside of bags, or bags with smaller bags crumpled inside of them.

I wheeled my cart out to my car and spent several minutes re-bagging that shit so it wouldn't fly all over my trunk.

Le sigh.

If Costco wasn’t already such a part of our culture, I think people would reject it if introduced today. So much waste, limited selection, terrible ambience, and putting all your stuff in old cardboard boxes. And the savings aren’t even that great. It’s a very Soviet experience.

Probably going this afternoon. Dammit.

When we walked in, I asked if we needed a big cart no she said it’s a small list.

I knew better.

You’re lucky HamNo’s not around anymore , otherwise you might be finding yourself banned from all of Kinja. Personally though, I think it’s fine, I wouldn’t say the best, but certainly not the worst.

The problem is, your vehicle has too much storage space. You need something less practical

I visited yesterday. Gasoline, a towel, cookies, and peanuts. Kept it under $100 even after gas.

That reminds me, Costco Visa reward is coming soon, should be around $400 this year, not bad. I’ve never fathomed the Costco haters, but maybe I have some homerism as the chain started here (first location in Seattle, store nearest me is in Kirkland, hence the “Kirkland” brand). I find it to be kind of a fun experience, an excuse to indulge, and you never know what you’ll find.   The savings on some items can pay for the membership, not to mention the gas.  The parking lot can be a gongshow, however, and I almost always go right when they open.

I don’t get the haters either but you can’t drag me there on a weekend.

Thats impressive self control. I went in for a case of beer and still spent 80bucks.

I often go on a Saturday or Sunday, arrive ~5 minutes before opening, as the local store often opens the doors several minutes early. I will refuel before going to the store, for a fast exit.   I can get in and out in 15 minutes, then done for another month or two. My mom lives in a rural area some distance from a store, and she won’t make that drive, so I also get to shop for her, fun times.

Our problem is that I have a list and she doesn’t. I handle going to Costco like a SEAL raid. I get in, I hit the targets , I get out. I can usually manage my list in no more than 15 minutes in the store, depending on checkout time.

My wife wanders.....

Same here on the wandering.

Shopping to me is a timed event. Quicker the better.

RIP to your wallet for the conceivable future lol.

The truck is actually really nice for Costco. I brought back a 65" TV in November. But any other time, I'm super diligent about keeping to my list I make before I go. Usually with one impulse buy allowed and of course a slice and a mocha freeze before I start shopping lol
